You may have noticed that I haven’t blogged a lot lately about my own personal running goals, mostly because they’ve been pretty nonexistent, especially after Ragnar. I personally find that having a running goal helps me stay motivated to train, which is probably why my running has been a little lackluster lately. So, I’ve been spending some time over the past few weeks trying to figure out exactly where I want to go with my running (besides around the block).
I know that I definitely don’t want to train for a marathon, especially not right now. I just don’t run well in the heat, and having to log long runs in the summer makes me hate running. I’m toying around with the idea of running a fall half, not for any time goal, but just to have fun. There are a couple of good half marathons in my area in the fall, after it’s cooled down a bit.
I think what I’ve decided I’d like to do is to train for a 5K PR. I honestly haven’t run a 5K race since I ran my PR of 25:46 at a turkey trot back in November 2011. I had just run a sub-2 hour half marathon earlier that month, so I was in pretty good shape, for me, anyway. I’m nowhere near that fast, but I think focusing on speedwork can get me back there.

So, my goal is to get back into 5K PR shape by Thanksgiving, if not before. I’m sure I’ll run a couple of races before that, maybe a 5K, but definitely a 10K or perhaps a half marathon. Look forward to hearing about what races I sign up for in the next couple of weeks!
